Gall Bladder and Pancreas Histo Flashcards
1
Q
Gall Bladder Histo
A
- Highly folded simple columnar epithelium, lamina propria and submucosa
- Irregular patches of smooth muscle scattered in lamina propria but no organized muscle layers
- Epithelium is so highly folded that it often creates artifacts that look like closed off sinuses (Rokitansky-Aschoff sinuses)
2
Q
What is gall bladder epithelium line with?
A
- Lined w/ only 1 cell type (absorptive cells) w/ claudins b/n them
- Absorb fluid from bile ducts by first pumping Na+ into lateral spaces between cells which then draws water into these spaces
3
Q
Pancreas Exocrine Histo
A
- acini (basophilic w/ granules) w/ 3 levels of ducts
1- Intercalated - smaller diameter than acinus (secrete bicarb)
2- Intralobular - same diameter as acinus
3- Interlobular - large and in connective tissue septa
4
Q
Pancreas Endocrine Histo
A
- islets of Langerhans
- Pale w/ clusters of 3 cell types
- Alpha- secrete glucagon
- Beta - secrete insulin
- Delta - secrete somatostatin
