Gait Functions Flashcards
Locomotor Functions (4)
Propulsion
Shock absorption
Stance stability
Energy conservation
Postural Sway Mechanisms (2)
Cardiac dynamics
Lack of absolute positional sense (proprioception).
Functional Rockers (4)
Heel rocker
Ankle rocker
Forefoot rocker
Toe rocker
Heel Rocker
Preserves momentum from forward fall into a facilitation of progressing the entire stance limb (0-12% of gait cycle).
Ankle Rocker
Ankle becomes the fulcrum for continue progression once the forefoot strikes the floor, rolling forward in response to the preserved momentum (~12-31% of gait cycle).
Forefoot Rocker
As heel rises, metatarsals act as rod of axis. As body weight shifts forward, progression is accelerated (~31%-50% of gait cycle).
Toe Rocker
Toe only contact as the leg begins to be unweighted. Elastic recoil of the PF thrust tibia forward for accelerated limb advancement (~50-62% of gait cycle).
