Gait cycle Flashcards
Where is the line of gravity
Posterior to hip
Anterior to knee and ankle
Early stance in hip:
Hip in flexion but moving into extension
Agonist = gluteus maximus and hamstring
Early stance in knee
Knee in extension
Stabilisers - quads, hamstring and gastrocnemius
Early stance in Ankle
Ankle in dorsiflexion but moving into plantar flexion
Agonist = triceps surae
Antagonist = tibialis anterior needed to control rate of foot drop to ground
Mid stance in hip
Continuing movement into extension
Agonist = gluteus maximus and hamstring
Mid stance in Knee
Moving from extension into slight flexion
Agonist = hamstring and gastrocnemius
Mid stance in ankle
Continuing to move unto plantarflexion
Agonist = triceps surae
Late stance in hip
In extension
Agonist = gluteus maximus and hamstring
Late stance in knee
In extension due to position of body
Hamstrings and gastrocnemius contracting ready for next movement
Early swing in hip
In extension moving into flexion
Agonist = iliopsoas and rectus femoris
Antagonists = gluteus maximus and hamstring control rate of swing
Late stance in Ankle
In full plantar flexion
Agonist = triceps surae
Early swing in knee
In flexion to lift foot from ground
Agonist = hamstring and gastrocnemius
Early swing in Ankle
In dorsiflexion to allow clearance of toes during swing
Agonist - tibialis anterior
Mid swing of hip
In flexion
Agonist = ilipsoas and rectus femoris
Antagonist = gluteus maximus and hamstring control rate of swing
Mid swing in Knee
In flexion to lift foot of ground
Agonist = hamstring and gastrocnemius
Mid swing in ankle
In dorsiflexion to allow clearance of toes during swing
Agonist = tibialis anterior
Late swing in hip
In flexion
Agonists = iliopsoas and rectus femoris
Late swing in Knee
Moving from flexion into extension to prepare for heel strike
Agonists = tibialis anterior to pull into dorsiflexion
Stabiliser = triceps surae to keep ankle stable
Late swing in ankle
In dorsiflexion
Agonist = tibialis anterior
Stabiliser = Triceps surae
