Due to pain, patient takes a short step on the affected limb and shifts immediately to the umaffected one
Antalgic (painful) Gait
Due to unilateral weakness of the gluteus medius and minimus and patient bears weight om the affected side but with excessive drop of the opposite pelvis
Trendelenburg Gait
Bilateral Trendelenburg, weakness of the same muscle
Waddling Gait
Patients with Hip pain leans more on the painful side of the body with an abducted ipsilateral arm
Coxalgic Gait
Seen in patients with Sensory or Cerebellar ataxia, gait is similar to that of a drunk person walking, often accompanied by dysmetria and intention tremors; Positive Romberg sign
Wide-based Gait
Due to Parkinson’s disease with shuffling steps
Diminished arm swing and flexed trunk, hips, neck and arm
