Study notes for written test
New G1 Drivers must..
- Be accompanied by a full- licensed driver with 4 years experience or an instructor. Be the only other person in the front seat.
- Only a family member can ride with the new driver.
- Be driving with complete 0% blood alcohol level.
To make a U-Turn, what do you do?
what do you check first?
- Check for traffic regulations first
- Signal to indicate, you plan to make a turn. Make a safe U-turn at an intersection or in between an intersection.
Uphill parking rules:
list out the different things
- With uphill parking; you must turn your wheels towards the curb or edge of the road.
- Turn the steering wheel to your left, so the wheels turn away from the curb and towards the road.
- Shift the handbrake on, with the foot on the break. Always use the parking brake.
Which Demerit points do you gain and how many will suspend the driver license?
- Gain 2-5 points, you will be sent a warning letter.
- Gain: 6-8 points; you will be sent a 2nd warning letter to improve on driving.
- Gain: 9+ points, the driving license is suspended for60 days. Letter from the Ministry of Transportation to tell you to surrender your license.
they are subject to fines and penalties just like fully licensed drivers.
When you see a School Bus with its overhead amber lights flashing:
- All drivers must stop when a bus is picking up/dropping passengers. Slow down when approaching the bus.
- If you are coming from behind the bus, stop at least 20 metres away. Do not go until the bus moves or the lights have stopped flashing.
- If a driver doesn’t stop, they can be fined $400 - $2,000 and receive six demerit points for a first offence
G1 Drivers must not…
what they should not be doing?
- Be driving between hrs of midnight to 5:00 am
- Not drive on Ontario’s 400-series highways; like Queen Elizabeth Way, Don Valley Pk or any express ways.
- Drive alone, must be accompanied by a licensed driver or instructor.
If you are involved in an accident, what should you check for?
Damage property..?
- If there are any injuries or fatalities
- There is damage to the vehicle or properties exceeding $2000 (not less) If accident is minor,you do not need to call the police.
In Ontario, you may not carry _ in a house or boat trailer while you are towing it.

The car is skidding on the road, the driver must:
- Take foot off the gas, shift to neutral (N)
- look and steer in the direction you want to go
- Once you gain control, steer back to center.
What are the speed limits from
outside towns/cities, and inside?
- Outside of cities/towns, the speed limit is 80 km/h
- Inside towns/cities, the speed limit is 50 km/h.
Rule on streetcar stops, how far should the driver stop?
Vehicles must stop at least 2 meters (6 ft) behind the rearmost door of a stopping or stopped streetcar
Parking your car on a slope,
you must:
- When facing downhill, turn your front wheels towards the curb or right shoulder.
- If you are facing uphill with a curb: Turn the steering wheel to the left so the wheels are turned towards the road.
As a new driver, when should the headlights be turned on?
- The vehicle headlights are turn on between one 1/2 hour before sunset and one 1/2 hour after sunrise.
- The vehicle’s headlights must shine a white light that can be seen at least 150 metres in front and is strong enough to light up.
A “No Parking” sign means
what does it mean with loading passengers?
you may stop temporarily to load or unload passengers or merchandise.
When driving at night, you must dim your headlights (use low beams) whenever:
you are following another vehicle within 60 metres (low number)
If you are approaching an intersection at which the traffic lights are not working
- Treat it if it was an all way stop sign
