Brandon, Jones and Ohman (2019) analyzed the amount of plastic in the fossil record by analyzing a sediment core, and found an exponential increase in plastic deposited in sea floor from 1945 - 2010, almost perfectly aligning with plastic production. This meaning we are leaving plastic behind in our fossil record at the same rate as plastic production
