Furnace Flashcards
What is a Thermocouple?
It senses the pilot light and signals the gas valve to open for gas flow.
What is a Hot surface ignitor?
The new “pilot light” for furnaces that raises the temp to start combustion when the gas supply turns on.
What is a flame sensor?
It is a safety device that if no heat is detected it turns off the gas supply.
What does the gas valve do?
It adjusts the gas pressure coming into your home so it is appropriate for the furnace.
What is a draft inducer motor?
A motor at helps push the toxic fumes out of the home through the vent pipe.
What does the pressure switch do?
Ensures the draft inducer is on to push fumes through the vent pipe. If the vacuum from the motor is not sensed, gas is not allowed to the furnace.
What is a limit switch?
It detects temperatures within the furnace. If it is too hot the limit turns off the gas to prevent safety issues.
