Fundus Photography Flashcards
Purpose of fundus photography
To monitor the progression over time
To document stability
To look at the condition at its current state
In your interpretation report for any type of imaging, what should you include
3 R’s
Reliability
Results
Reason (Plan) (how did this imaging affect your management moving forward?)what are you going to do now with the photos
Colored monochromatic photography involves
Taking a picture of the fundus and using the monochromatic light filter.
Purpose: to enhance contrast of anatomical structures
Which of the following monochromatic filters provide better view for media opacities and has excellent contrast and best overal view of the fundus? A. Green light B. B&W C. Red-free D. Blue light E. Both a and c
E
Which filter is absorbed by blood but has PARTIAL reflectivity by the RPE?
A. Red free
B Blue
A .
Which of the following is suitable for colored monochromatic photography?
A. Retinal vasculature, drusen, hemorrhages, exudates
B. Nerve Fiber Layer Defects
C. ONH cupping and notching
D. Enhancing subtle retinal edema or other lesions
E enhancing subtle vessel changes (microaneurysums, telangietasia)
All of the above
The difference between fundus photograph images and IVFA fundus images is
On fundus photography, the blood vessels ARE BLACCK!!!!! AND THERE IS no leakage shown
Vs
IVFA is a study over time. Will take pictures at different states at a time. Will show leaving.
Benefits of wide field retinal images
Fast, convenient, images peripheral retinal, no pupil dilation required
Limitations of wide field retinal imaging
Inability to image the ora serrata 360 WITH a SINGLE Image *sup and inf. Are limited)
Does not replace BIO with sclera depressive
Most of the time, its an Ellison’s mirror on the machine …this gives distortion of their peri image and prevents direct measurements
