in two different places
1)Medsafe (under Product application search)
2)NZF ( check the medicines information at the bottom of the page).
if a medicine has been discontinued the medicine monograph will remain on NZF for how long?
at least six months.
(so that means there may be a period of time where the medicine is listed on NZF, but it is no longer available to be obtained in NZ)
NZF does not contain information on all medicines available OTC why?
frequently changing products
difficult to maintain lists
classification of the medicine where this information be found?
can be found in several places
1)Medicines Regulations 1984 Schedule 1
2)Medsafe website Medicines Classification Database
3)NZF
Four main classifications of medicines are?
Prescription Only
Restricted/Pharmacist Only
Pharmacy Only
General Sale
“Prescription only except when …..” with a series of conditions stated what does it mean?
When the medicine is sold according to those conditions, it is legally a general sale medicine.
Often the conditions will outline a protocol to follow what does it mean?
they will be treated almost the same as restricted/pharmacist only medicines.
One important difference is that they do not need to be sold in a pharmacy - this enables pharmacists to provide these medicines off-site, for example, influenza vaccine.
