FUNDAMENTALS OF SECURITY Flashcards
INTEGRITY
DEFINE INTEGRITY
Integrity verifies the accuracy and trustworthiness of data over the entire lifecycle.
WHY DATA INTEGRITY IS SO IMPORTANT?
Data integrity is important for 3 main reasons:
1 Ensure Data Accuracy
2 Maintain Trust
3 Ensure system operability
What are the methods used to maintain data integrity?
1 . Hashing
2. Access Controls
3. Digital Signatures
4. Regular Audits
5 Checksums
Define Hashing.
Hashing is the process of converting data into a fixed-size value. The hashing value will almost serve like a digital fingerprint
Define Digital Signatures
Digital Signatures use encryption to ensure both integrity and authenticity. To digitally sign a file it will be first hashed to ensure integrity then it will be encrypted to ensure authenticity
Define Checksums
Is a method used to verify the integrity of a data during transmission
Define Access Controls
It ensures that only authorized users can modify data and reduces the risk of unintentional or malicious alterations
Define Audits
It involves reviewing logs and operations to ensure that only authorized changes have been made and any discrepancies are addressed
