Fundamentals Of Flight Flashcards
What is the FAA
Federal aviation administration
FARs?
federal aviation regulations
Before solo, you must have what kind of medical certificate
First class, second class, or third class
When is a flight review required?
Within the past 24 calendar months to act as pilot in command, whether flying solo or carrying passengers
True or false? You must have an ATP certificate to fly for a major airline under part 121.
True
TEM?
Threat and air management
The systematic approach to the mental process that Pilot used to consistently arrive at the rate, course of action in any circumstance
 The ATM process
Flow pattern?
Performing normal procedures, configuring airplane/avionics
Wind, direction, runway, length, takeoff distance, initial heading, takeoff and climb speeds, departure procedures, emergency plan.
Takeoff briefing
Airport info, active runway, airport, elevation/pattern, altetude, traffic pattern entry.
Pre-landing briefing
What are the five major components of an airplane?
Powerplant, wing, landing gear, empennage , fuselage
What does the fly will allow us to do?
Start playing electrically
What is the AFM?
Pilots operating handbook/FAA approved airplane flight manual
What are the three required flight instruments you must have at all times to fly
Airspeed indicator, altimeter, magnetic compass
What are the required engine system monitoring indicator so you must have every flight?
Tachometer, manifold, pressure, gauge, fuel gauge, oil temp, oil pressure gauge/temp gauge, Landing gear position indicator
What are the four combustion engine cycles?
Intake, compression, combustion , exhaust
What is this describing? Changes the way the aircraft flies (more power, less power), cools and heats engine, and is affected by air density
Mixture
What are the two types of mixtures?
Rich and lean
If you have a high engine temperature, what should you do?
Enrichen the mixture, increase airspeed, pull power back
What do magnetos do and what is the purpose?
They create their own power, incase of a fail
What does the primer do?
Move fuel from line into first third and fourth cylinders. It allows us to start engine with fuel already in the cylinders.
Where are the fuel tanks located?
Wings
What is the difference between a fixed pitch propeller and a constant speed propeller
The fixed pitch propeller blade angle cannot be changed
What is the purpose of the alternator?
Supply electrical energy
What does the master switch control?
The entire electrical system, except for ignition system
What does the ammeter show?
If the alternator is producing an adequate supply of electrical power
