Fundamentals of Eukaryotic Gene Expression Flashcards
1
Q
What are cells made of?
A
- Dry mass is mainly proteins - enzymes
2
Q
How does cell differentiation occur?
A
Gene expression results in specialised cells => diff proteins are synthesised
2
Q
What is gene expression?
A
The multistep biochemical process that decodes nucleotide sequences into proteins
3
Q
Ribosomes’ Function
A
Transcription of RNA into DNA
- DNA is in nucleus - RNA must be transported out of nuclear pores to ribosomes to be transcripted to protein
- has 2 subunits w/ a core made of RNA - has a helix
4
Q
Where are proteins synthesised?
A
Endoplasmic Reticulum
5
Q
Are there ribosomes in the nucleus?
A
most signal for the function of ribosome in the cytoplasm
as well as in nucleolus
=> concluded functional ribosomes in the nucleus - can start translating DNA in the nucleus - not just cytoplasm
