Connective Tissue
Connective tissue connects other tissues or organs. It includes cartilage, bone, tendons, ligaments, areolar connective tissue, adipose, dense regular connective tissue, dense irregular connective tissue, and blood.
Nervous Tissue
Nervous tissue is found in the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. It is responsible for coordinating and controlling many body activities.
Epithelial Tissue
Type of body tissue that forms the covering on all internal and external surfaces of your body, lines body cavities and hollow organs and is the major tissue in glands.
Muscular Tissue
Composed of cells that have the special ability to shorten or contract in order to produce movement of the body parts.
Anterior
Nearer the front, especially situated in the front of the body or nearer to the head
Sagittal
A vertical plane running from front to back; divides the body or any of its parts into right and left sides
Superficial
Objects near the body’s surface as compared to other objects that may be deep
Medial
Toward the middle or center
Posterior
The back of a structure or a structure found toward the back of the body
Origin
Origin is relatively the less movable end of the muscle/tendon that is attached to a bone
Superior
Situated in a higher position on the body, closer to the head, farther from the feet, upper half of the body
Transverse
Horizontal plane through the body dividing the body into superior and inferior halves
Frontal Plane
Verticle plane through the body that divides the body into anterior and posterior halves
Lateral
To the side of, or away from, the middle of the body
Ipsilateral
On the same side of the body as another structure or a given point
