Functions of parts of the bean Flashcards
Cotyledon
The cotelydon is an aspect of the seed which contains/perserves the nutrition/ food of the bean which is later broken down by oxygen to provide energy for the growing points of the bean seed ( the radicle and the stem ). While the energy as a whole supplied by the cotelydon allows the seed to germinate
Radicle
The radicle is one of the main and largest growing points of the bean. It is the first organ to appear when a seed germinated allowing it to grow towards the soil anchoring the seedling within the ground
Micropyle
In a seed the microple is a small hole in the seed which absorbs the moisture/water mandatory for germination. Leading to the seed swelling up and bursting open
Seed coat/ Testa
The function of the testa is to act as a strong coat protecting the seed and it’s transit to germination. Whi;le also providing information concerning it’s external enviornment.
Plumules
The function of the plumules refers towards this appartus of the bean helping the growth devlopment of the shoot system. This regards leaves, stems, flowers, fruit and seeds.
What is needed for germination?
Water, Oxygen, Warmth ( WOW )
