What is a function of an OS?
It manages resources by coordinating memory, processing, storage, printers, and monitors. It can also monitor system performance, schedule tasks, provide security, and start-up the computer.
What can an OS provide?
It provides the User Interface and runs applications in FOREGROUND - BACKGROUND and allows multitasking
What is Booting?
The process of starting a computer
How many types of Booting are there?
Two, Warm booting and Cold booting
What is warm booting?
When the computer is already on and you restart it without turning off the power
What is cold booting?
Starting the computer that is already off
What are features in common with application software?
Menus, Icons , Dialog Boxes, Toolbars, Windows, Pointers, Help, Gesture Control
What is Gesture Control?
The ability to control operations with finger movements : swiping, punching , sliding
Where do Operating Systems store data and programs?
In system files and folders
What does a system file do?
Share data and programs
What does a folder do?
Store related files
