Olfactory
Smell
Optic
Vision
Oculomotor
Motor to some extrinsic eye muscles
Motor to intrinsic muscles of the eye (parasympathetic)
Trochlear
Motor to dorsal oblique muscle of eye
Trigeminal
Sensory to superficial and deep face
Motor to muscles of mastication
Abducens
Motor to lateral rectus and retractor bulbi muscles of eye
Facial
Motor to muscles of facial expression
Motor to salivary glands (parasympathetic)
Taste from rostral 2/3 of tongue
Vestibulocochlear
Balance and hearing
Glossopharyngeal
Sensory to pharynx, ear canal, carotid body
Taste from caudal 1/3 tongue
Motor to stylopharyngeus muscle
Motor to salivary glands (parasympathetic)
Vagus
Motor to constrictors of pharynx and larynx
Motor to viscera (parasympathetic)
Taste from pharynx and epiglottis
Sensory to viscera and ear
Accessory
Motor to muscles of neck and shoulder
Hypoglossal
Motor to tongue muscles
Opthalmic (Br. of Trigeminal)
Sensory only with 3 branches:
Lacrimal
Frontal to upper eyelid, frontal sinus and adjacent skin
Nasociliary with 3 branches:
Infratrochlear, with cornual br which is sensory to horn of small ruminants
Long ciliary which is sensory to the eyeball
Ethmoidal
Maxillary (Br. of Trigeminal)
Sensory only with 3 branches:
Zygomatic nerve with 2 branches:
Zygomatiotemporal, sensory to the horn of all ruminants
Zygomaticofacial
Pterygopalatine which is sensory to palatine region of nasal cavity
Infrorbital through infraorbital canal to teeth and gingivae of upper jaw
Mandibular (Br. of Trigeminal)
Motor and sensory. Motor branches named after muscles and go to to lateral and medial pterygoid, deep temporal, messeteric, mylohyoid.
Sensory brances are buccal to cheeks, auriculotemporal to ear and temporal skin, inferior alveolar to lower teeth and gums, mental to lower lip and gums, lingual to tongue.
Greater Petrosal (Br. of Facial)
Parasympathetic to lacrimal and palatine glands
Stapedial (Br. of Facial)
Motor to stapedial muscles of ear
Chorda Tympani
Distributed with CN V3 and passes through middle ear. Parasympathetic to mandibular and sublingual salivary glands, glands of tongue and taste from anterior two thirds of tongue.
