Functions Flashcards
1
Q
What are the different types of functions
A
one to one function, many to one function
2
Q
why is ‘one to many’ not a function?
A
one input cannot go to many answers (outputs)
3
Q
what does f(x) = x + 7 mean
A
the function f takes x to x + 7
4
Q
What are the steps to calculating the inverse of a function
A
- replace f(x) with y
- rearrange to find x
- replace x with f^-1(x) and y with x
- Swap around the values for the domain and range
5
Q
what is the purpose of limits of functions
A
to find approximations for equations
6
Q
say we had the equation f(x) = 2^x as x tends to 0,(find an approx to 5dp), what would we do here?
A
we would substitute suitable values of x, each time using a value closer and closer to 0 till we get 2 values that to 5dp are the same. in this case the answer would be 1.00000
