Functions Flashcards
Linear
y = mx + c
Parabola (intercept form)
y = k(x-a)(x-b)
Parabola (vertex form)
y = k(x-a)^2 + b
Cubic (three intercepts)
y = k(x-a)(x-b)(x-c)
Cubic (two intercepts)
y = k(x-a)^2 (x-b)
Square root
y = a /x-h + k
What is a, h and k in the square root function y = a /x-h + k?
a is unknown, (h,k) is the starting point
Hyperbola
y = a/(x-c) + b
What is a, c and b in the hyperbola equation y = a/(x-c) + b
a is unknown, c is vertical asymptote(x), d is horizontal asymptote(y), YOU CAN ONLY ASSUME ONE OF THESE
Exponential
y = b x a^x + c
What is a, b and c in the exponential equation y = b x a^x +c
a and b are unknowns, c is horizontal asymptote(y)
Circle
(x-a)^2 + (y-b)^2 = r^2
What is a, b and r in the circle equation (x-a)^2 + (y-b)^2 = r^2
(a,b) is the centre of the circle and r is the radius (possibly unknowns)
Log
y = loga(x-c) + b
What is a, c and b in the log equation y = loga(x-c)+b
c is the vertical asymptote(x), and a and b are unknowns
