cartilage is a resilient, avascular form of connective tissue that covers the surface of opposing bones. This cushions the bones and gives a smooth surface to facilitate movement.

a bursa is in place in certain places of the body to help cushion the joints by providing a sack of synovial fluid

the epiphyseal plates, or growth plates, are specialized growth centers found in the form of transverse discs at the ends of long bone.
