What are Universal Standards?
How a character would be judged against the values of the whole world
What are Particularistic standards?
The Parent will treat their child as if they are unique, special child, rather than judging him or her by universal standards.
What are Norms?
A socially acceptable way to act and behave in society.
What are Values?
Socially acceptable goals and aspirations
Define Ascribed status
A role/status you are born into or inherit
Define Achieved status
A role/status that is earnt.
Explain Socialisations function.
To prepare children for social interaction by teaching them societies norms and values
What is meant by Meritocracy.
A government where the power is held by a small group of people based on Achieved Status.
Explain Economic function.
Education is based to raise productivity and creativity and to stimulate entrepreneurial growth.
What is the theory of Society in miniature.
Durkheim argued that school is a miniature society that prepares us for the wider society and work life.

Treating people fairly and without bias and about creating conditions in wider society that encourage and value diversity and promote dignity.

Education Children helps meet the needs of society and maintain stability

the cohesion between individuals in a society that ensures social order and stability
