Standards which apply to everyone.

Standards which apply to certain people

Social constructs learned mostly through primary socialisation.
Values
Beliefs about what is right and wrong.
Ascribed status
Status you’re born with.
Achieved status
A title that is earned and deserved.
Socialisation function
Families teach children norms and values associated with the family and community.
Economic function
Parents provide for children, ensuring they have all they need.
Meritocracy
Status is achieved based on merit and by hard work.
Society in miniature
Education is a smaller representation of wider society - children are taught to interact with others within a set of fixed rules.
Equality of opportunity
A system in which every person has an equal chance of success.
Integration
The ways that different groups come together to form a while in society.
Social solidarity
The cohesion between individuals that ensures social order and stability.
Role allocation
A system of allocating people to roles which best suit their attitudes and capabilities.
