What is social solidarity?
Interdependence of individuals within society producing stability
What are specialist skills?
Specific job roles require specific skills e.g. building a home requires an architect and a builder
What is society in miniature?
Education trains pupils to value same things as the rest of society thus promoting the hidden curriculum
What does Parson argue?
Education acts as a bridge of socialisation
What is primary socialisation?
Socialisation learnt with the family
What is secondary socialisation?
Socialisation learnt by wider society
What are particularistic values?
There are rules for children but these may differ from family to family
What is an ascribed status?
Status fixed from birth
What are universalistic values?
Same rules apply to everyone
What is an achieved status?
In society and school you must work hard to gain status

There are different roles in society that must be fulfilled therefore justifying inequality
