Q

What does Parsons argue about edu.

A

He argued education is to promote the value consensus and shares universalistic values in secondary socialisation.
As opposed to learning particularistic values from your parents in primary socialisation. At home, you’re working in line with your ascribed status (status assigned to you at birth), whereas, in a shared society, you work from the bottom and achieve your status.

Q

What do Davis and Moore argue about edu.

A

Education sorts and sifts people into subjects, sets and jobs that they’re better suited for. The most able gain the highest qualifications and so get paid the most money. People sorted into the lower sets may get lower grades, then a lower paid job, and stay at the bottom.
