Functional anatomy of the upper limb 2 Flashcards
What is the wrist?
A joint complex consisting of radio-carpal joint and many relationships between carpal bones
Proximal row- Pisiform, triquetrum, lunate and scaphoid
Distal row- Hamate, capitate, trapezoid and trapezium
Some Lovers Try Positions That They Can’t Handle
Scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum, pisiform, trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, hamate
Articular disc betwewen ulna+ other bones (ulna not part of wrist joint)
Characteristics of the radio-carpal joint
An ellipsodial/ condyloid joint- its capsule is reinforced by palmar, dorsal, radial collateral and ulnar collateral ligaments
Synovial membrane does not cover articular disc
Midcarpal joint
Between 2 rows of carpal bones
Plane joint that allows gliding, but assist with wrist motions
Carpometacarpal joint
Between distal row of carpal bones and proximal end of metacarpal bones More stability than mobility Approx 2-5 Gliding joints w/ limited range Supporting palmar/dorsal CMC ligaments
Wrist and hand joints
Medial 4 carpometacarpal joints are plane joints
Carpometacarpal joint of thumb = SADDLE JOINT, allows for opposition and reposition
