Function of Various Parts of the Respiratory System in Gaseous Exchange Flashcards
1
Q
Function of External nostrils
A
Hair and mucus in both nostrils helps to trap foreign particles
2
Q
Function of Pharynx (throat)
A
The passageway leading from the mouth and nose to the larynx (and oesophagus)
3
Q
Function of Larynx

- Also a muscular organ where vocal chords that produces sounds and speeches are held
4
Q
Function of Trachea and Bronchi
A
- Trachea carries air to the Bronchi and the bronchi carries air to the bronchioles
- Both are lined with cilia and mucus secreting gland which helps to clean the air before it enters the lungs
5
Q
Function of alveoli
A
- Tiny air sacs in the lungs
- They facilitates efficient gaseous exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen between the lungs and the bloodstream
6
Q
Function of Bronchioles
A
- Very fine tubes that branched out from the bronchus
- Each bronchiole channels air into a cluster of alveoli
