Q

Emergency fuel accumulators

A

In event of power failure, two emergency accumulators provide fuel to allow limited time for electrical supplies to be restored, without losing propulsion, and to enable controlled shutdown for gas turbines, 8 minutes at idle, 2 minutes at full power

Q

Fuel contamination

A

Water - condensation in tanks, leaks in tanks, embarked during fuelling
Dirt - from fuel degradation
Sodium - from salt water contamination
Surfactants - from detergent from tank cleans
Microbiological contamination - live and feed in water, aerobic
Sulphide reducing bacteria - forms when oxygen has been depleted by MBC, anaerobic
