Fuel Flashcards
What is additional fuel for?
If sum of trip fuel, contingency, alternate, and final reserve fuel is not sufficient to cover one engine or depressurisation diversion assuming the failure occurs at the most critical point. Also allows to hold for 15 mins at 1500 AAL and make an approach and landing.
Also allows EDTO critical fuel scenario. Additional fuel accounts for forecast icing penalty, APU burn, CDL/MEL performance penalties.
Normal Fuel?
- Proceed from present position to destination
- Make an approach to land
- Divert to an alternate, plus 5% Contingency fuel
- Hold for 30 mins at 1500ft AAL and make an approach and landing.
Normal Isolated Aerodrome Fuel
- Proceed from present position to isolated destination
- Hold for 2 hours overhead the destination at cruising altitude
- Make an approach and landing
Contingency Fuel
Caters for extended taxi times, restrictions on altitudes, statistical delays, errors in forecast winds/temps
Can reduce contingency up to by 10 mins but minimum 5 mins must remain.
In-flight reduction of Normal Fuel Required
If it becomes clear that the flight will arrive at the destination (other than isolated aerodrome), with less than MDF, it is permissible to continue to destination provided:
1. Enroute and prior to descent for destination aerodrome:
a) 2x independent runways (not crossing or reciprocal)
b) Actual and forecast weather for the ETA indicates weather conditions AT OR ABOVE the Non-Precision Approach Planning Minima for Destination Alternates and the crosswind is within limits.
c) No known or probable ATC delays.
d) Fuel remaining is sufficient to continue to destination, plus 5% contingency from overhead of abeam the last suitable ERA + 30mins holding at 1,500ft AAL + make an approach and landing.
Note: Multiple runways within 60nm radius can be included in independent runway calculations. i.e. VHHH can use VMMC and ZGSZ
- After commencing descent: If a delay or unforeseen situation develops, which would result in a/c landing with less than MDF, the flight may continue to the destination provided fuel remaining on landing will be at least equal to Final Reserve Fuel (30 mins)
When can you drop Contingency Fuel?
After park brake released.
Fuel required to continue to destination?
In flight, a/c can continue to destination provided:
-FOB is equal or greater Normal Fuel to destination; or
-FOB is sufficient to divert to a suitable ERA; or
-Conditions for In-flight reduction of Normal Fuel Required permit.
-Decision to continue OR divert shall be made prior to overhead/abeam last suitable ERA.
