an organization founded for religious, educational, proffesional or social purpose
secondary socialisation
institutions like school where individuals learn the universalistic values of wider society rather then the family and community
anomie
a state or normlessness, potentially leading to chaos
skills provision
teaching the knowledge and skills required for wider society and jobs
role allocation
sorting people into the roles they will later peform in life. functionalists see this as meritocratic
official ciriculum
the subject knowledge taught in classes and assessed in examinations
hidden curriculum
subtle things that are taught in school which are not in the official curriculum. includes learning manners and behaviour and respecting authority
meritocracy
individuals that work hard will be rewarded in society whilst those who do not will not be rewarded
functionialism
breif: looks at society as a whole. society is structured. everything in society has a function. emily durkheim
human capital
schultz: the skills knowledge and abilities that individuals posses, contributing to the economic productivity and success in the labor market
