CLOCK Controls

A

CHR Control.

  • PUSH - start / stop / reset functions of the CHR display and 2nd hand with successive pushing
  • Chronograph
  • overrides any existing ET display

TIME/DATE Pushbutton.

  • controls time/date function
  • cycle thru:
    • UTC time (come from GPS)
    • UTC date (GPS)
    • MAN (Manual time) (from Clock)
    • MAN (Manual date) (from Clock)

SET Pushbutton.

  • set manual time and date
  • push 1 x -hours flash (use +- button to set)
  • push again: minutes
  • push again: run the time

ET/RESET Pushbutton.

  • controls elapsed time function
  • ET 1 x - run elapsed time - 2 x Hold the ET
  • Reset - set ET to 0
  • will see RUN or HLD symbol in lower left

+ / - Pushbutton.

  • use to set manual time and date
  • Date: Day - Month - Year - RUN
  • a delay greater than 1 min will revert back to previous time/date

Time / Date Indicator.

  • shows UTC or MAN time (when selected with TIME button)
  • alternates between day/month and year when date selected with (Time/date button)

Elapsed Time / Chronograph Indicator.

  • displays ET(h:m) or CH minutes
  • CH replaces ET (ET runs in background until after CH is stopped/reset)

Chronograph Second Hand.

  • sweep second hand
  • indicates chronography seconds
  • controlled by CHR control

  • pushing inhibits BELOW G/S alert below 1,000’ RA

DISPLAY SELECT PANEL Controls

A

MAIN PANEL DUs Selector.

  • selects what is displayed on the respective DUs

OUTBD PFD - shows PFD on outbd display blanks the inbd

NORM - PDF on outbd and ND on inbd

INBD.

  • ENG PRI - primary eng inst on inbd display and PFD on outbd
  • PFD - PFD on inbd and blanks the outbd
  • MFD - PFD on outbd and blanks the inbd - inbd stays blank until SYS or ENG is selected with MFD switch

LOWER DU Selector.

  • selects what is on the lower DU

ENG PRI - primary eng instruments on lower DU - blanks upper

NORM - DU is normally blank OR displays MFD format selected on eng display control panel

ND - displays ND on lower unit

A/P P/RST Light

A

A/P Disengage Light.

  • RED FLASHING - flashes red and tone sounds
    • if AP disengages (can be reset by pressing either disengage light or switch)
  • RED STEADY.
    • stab out of trim below 800’ RA (dual channel approach)
    • ALT ACQ inhibitied (during AP Go-around - if stab not trimmed for single AP ops)
    • Test switch held in POS 2
    • Ground system test fail
  • AMBER FLASHING.
    • AP automatically reverts to CWS pitch or Roll while in CMD (reset by pushing either light or select another mode)
  • AMBER STEADY.
    • test switch held in POS 1

A

RED FLASHING - AT has disengaged.

RED STEADY - test switch held in POS 2

AMBER FLASHING. AT airspeed error

  • Inflight
  • Flaps not up
  • airspeed differs from commanded value by +10 or -5 kts and its not approaching commanded value

AMBER STEADY - test switch held in POS 1

FMC P/RST Light

A

FMC Alert Light.

  • Illuminated (Amber only):
    • an alert message exsits for both CDUs
    • test switch held in POS 1 OR POS 2
  • pressing will extinguish both pilots FMC alert lights

A

TEST 1:

  • illuminates AP/AT disengage lights and FMC Alert lights [STEADY AMBER]

A

Test.

  • illuminates ALL system lights on FWD and AFT overhead panels
  • SOME lights on CAPT and FO panels
  • go to full brightness
  • will trigger RECALL and when released the Faults are shown

BRT: all indicators full bright

DIM: all indicators to low brightness

A
  • RED (on Ground)
    • activates when thrust levers are advanced if a/c not configured correctly for takeoff
    • light is simultaneous with aural warning horn

A

RED (Inflight)

  • comes on when CABIN ALT exceeds 10,000’
  • simultaneous with aural warning horn

A

Deactivated.

  • is not armed with Speed Brake lever in the DOWN position

Illuminated (Green).

  • indicates the automatic operation of the the speed brake system is armed correctly

SPEED BRAKE DO NOT ARM Light

What is this light telling us? (1sp)

Can we still use the speedbrake after landing? (1sp)

A

[1sp: we are having a problem with the speedbrake system and we cant arm it.

(b) yes - we can do it manually]

Deactivated.

  • light is not armed when Speed Brake handle is DOWN

Illuminated (Amber).

  • abnormal condition -or-
  • test inputs to the auto speed brake system -or-
  • During Landing -
    • wheel speed < 60 kts and the speedbrake lever is NOT DOWN.
    • will stay on until speedbrake is stowed.

Abnormal Conditions.

  • lever ARMED or either thrust lever in REVERSE and (one of the following)…
    • anti skid inop
    • auto speedbrake actuator not retracted
    • wheel speed vs air/gnd signal disagree
    • internal faults
  • even with AUTOMATIC faults - you can still use speedbrakes MANUALLY (to UP after landing)

A
  • Operates ONLY with autopilot engaged
  • remains OUT if AP is not engaged

SPEEDBRAKES EXTENDED Light

What happens when this light comes on? (1sp) or what can cause this light to come on?

A

[1sp: this light will come on - the speedbrake and/or the spoiler handle has been positioned beyond the ‘armed’ detent with the flap handle beyond 10’ and/or 800’ RA]

Amber Light.

  • INFLIGHT
    • speedbrake lever above the armed position - and -
      • TE flaps > 10 - or -
      • ALT < 800’ RA
  • GROUND (failure condition)
    • speedbrake lever is DOWN - and -
    • ground spoilers are NOT stowed
    • Note - if hyd A is less than 750 psi this light will not work on the ground

BRAKE PRESSURE Indicator

A
  • indicates brake accumulator pressure (with B pumps off)
    • Normal Pressure - 3000 psi
    • Max Pressure - 3500 psi
    • Normal PRECHARGE - 1000 psi
      • if you have 1000 psi - you will have NO brake pressure available

A

Foot Air Controls.

  • Pull - supplies conditioned air to pilots leg positions

Windshield Air Controls.

  • Pull - supplies conditioned air to #1 windows for DEFOGGING

A

Rotate.

  • CAPT - Capts panel and instrument lighing, center inst panel, AFDS panel and edge lighting
  • FO - FO panel and instrument lighting

A

OUTBD DU: single control - adjust brightness of OBDU

UPPER DU: singe control - adjust brightness of UPDU

INBD DU: dual control

  • Outer knob - brightness of INBD DU
  • Inner knob - rotate to adjust weather radar and terrain display brightness on Capts INBD DU

LOWER DU:

  • Outer knob - brightness of lower DU
  • Inner knob - rotate to adjust weather radar and terrain display brightness on lower DU

FLOOD

AFDS FLOOD

A

Background Light Control (FLOOD)

  • controls brightness for Capt and FO panel and center panel
  • these floodlights can operate in both NORMAL and STANDBY modes
    • NORMAL - adjust lights from control
    • STANDBY - fixed light intensity
  • Normally powered by AC power from transfer bus 1
    • backup power is the AC standby bus

AFDS FLOOD Light Control

  • control lighting at the AFDS panel
  • AC powered with NO standby mode

GPWS INOP Light

A

Amber Light.

  • GPWS malfunction - invalid inputs received from any of the following:
    • radalt
    • ADIRU
    • ILS
    • IRS
    • FMC
    • SMYD computers
    • EFIS panel
  • or Power Loss

GPWS SYSTEM TEST Switch

A
  • 2 self tests available - 1 short - 1 long

Short Test.

  • provide a confidence go/no go test to show EGPWS is functional
  • on ground or in the air (inhibited below 1000’ RA)
  • activated by: pressing button for 1 second (called a Level 1 test - 1 of 6 test available)

Long Test.

  • full feature test - ONLY ON THE GROUND
  • activated by: Pressing and Holding test button until voices start
  • with a mixed fleet not a bad idea to run this to see what you have available on that plane
  • 6 levels of self tests

Notes.

  • to quickly advance to next level - after each test starts push SYS TEST switch for 1 second
    • short cancel: stops a test sequence (push button for < 2 seconds)
    • long cancel: stops a self test level (push button for > 2 seconds)

GPWS FLAP INHIBIT Switch

A

Flap Inhibit.

  • inhibits ground prox ‘TOO LOW FLAPS’ alert
  • simulates flaps in landing config (30 or greater)

Norm - (guarded) - TOO LOW FLAPS alert active

GPWS GEAR INHIBIT Switch

A

Gear Inhibit.

  • inhibits ground prox ‘TOO LOW GEAR’ alert
  • simulates gear down to stop the alert

Norm - (guarded) - Normal TOO LOW GEAR alert active

GPWS TERR INHIBIT Switch

A

Terr Inhibit.

  • inhibits LOOK AHEAD terrain alerts (cautions and warnings) and terrain display and aural messages
  • does not affect modes 1-7

Norm - (guarded) - normal terrain alerts and displays active

YAW DAMPER Indicator

A
  • indicates MAIN yaw damper movement of rudder
  • pilot rudder inputs are NOT indicated (yaw damper only)
  • inop when YD switch - OFF
  • right turn = left deflection and vice versa

* only MAIN YD inputs are shown (#1 SMYD) no Standby yaw damper or manual rudder pedal input *

STANDBY ATTITUDE Indicator

A
  • power from the BATT BUS (DC powered)
  • backup for the IRS
  • up to speed w/in 3 min after power applied
  • Pitch is in 5 degree increments

Approach Mode Selector.

  • OFF - gs & loc retracted from view
  • APP - gs & loc in view (ILS signals from #1 ILS receiver)
  • B/CRS - reverse sensing - gs NOT displayed

Caging Control Knob.

  • Pull - aligns horizon line with airplane symbol

Warning Flags.

  • GYRO - loss of power
  • LOC or GS - failure of LOC or GS or pointers are removed or not selected

STANDBY ALT / AIRSPEED Indicator

A

Standby Altimeter.

  • static pressure from 2 alt static ports
  • shows a green flag (left side of window) when altitude is < 10,000’ and striped flag when < 0’
  • BARO Setting Control knob - rotate adjusts baro correction in both windows

Standby Airspeed Indicator.

  • receives ram air pressure from AUX pitot probe and static from ALT Static ports

STANDBY RMI Indicator

A

Pointers.

  • Narrow - VOR or ADF for bearing pointer (Nav 1)
  • Wide - VOR only (ADF inop) (Nav 2)

Warning Flags.

  • HDG - compass signal from ADIRU is lost
  • BRG 1 Flag:
    • VOR mode:
      • RMI power failure - or -
      • VHF nav signal unreliable
    • ADF mode:
      • RMI power failure - or -
      • ADF failure or signal unreliable
  • BRG 2 Flag:
    • VOR mode:
      • RMI power failure - or -
      • VHF nav signal unreliable

ENG DISPLAY CONTROL PANEL Items

A

controls for N1 SET / SPD REF / FUEL FLOW / MFD

N1 Set. 2 knobs

  • Outer Knob.
    • Auto -
      • both N1 bugs set by FMC (comes from N1 LIMIT page and TAKEOFF REF page)
      • displays reference N1 bugs at active N1 limit for AT
      • displays above N1 digital display box
    • Both -
      • both N1 bugs and readouts manually set (by the inner knob)
      • NO effect on AT
    • 1 or 2 -
      • respective N1 bug and readout manually set (by inner knob)
      • No effect on AT
  • Inner Knob. (spring loaded to center)
    • Rotate - positions N1 bugs and readouts when outer knob in BOTH, 1 or 2

SPD Ref.

  • 2 knobs -
  • Outer. (may be used if both FMCs had failed)
    • Auto - ref airspeeds and gross wt provided automatically thru the FMC (any manually set bugs are blanked with this selection)
    • V1 - used to manually set V1 (ground only) if in flight it will display ‘INVALID ENTRY
    • VR - manually set VR (ground only) if in flight it will display ‘INVALID ENTRY
    • WT - manual entry of reference gross weight
    • VREF - manually set the landing reference speed (inflight only) if on gnd it will display ‘INVALID ENTRY
    • Bug 5 - manually set white bug 5 to desired value (looks like a triangle)
    • SET - removes the speed reference display
  • Inner Knob.
    • Rotate - 2 speed slew
      • manually sets the appropriate reference airspeed or gross weight
      • digital display appears below the airspeed indication

Fuel Flow. (spring loaded to RATE)

  • RATE - displays fuel flow to engine
  • USED - fuel used since last RESET (reverts back to RATE display after 10 seconds)
  • RESET - resets fuel used to zero (displays fuel used for 1 second, decreases to 0, the displays fuel flow)

MFD.

  • ENG
    • ​displays SECONDARY eng indications on LOWER DU (or UPDU/INBD if lower not avail)
    • second push BLANKS lower DU
  • SYS
    • ​Push -
      • ​displays hydraulic indications on LOWER DU (or inbd based on MAIN PANEL DU switch)
      • second push removes indications

AUTO BRAKE DISARM Light

A

Illuminated (Amber).

  • During RTO or Landing.
    • Speed Brake Lever - DOWN
    • Manual Brakes applied
    • Thrust levers advanced (except 1st 3 seconds)
  • Landing with RTO selected
  • RTO selected on ground (comes on for 1-2 seconds than off - self test)
  • malfunction in system

Extinguished.

  • AUTO BRAKE select switch - OFF
  • autobrakes are armed

AUTOBRAKE SELECT Switch

What conditions do we need to ARM the system - RTO? (1sp)

A

[1sp: on the ground, thrust levers idle, speed below 60 kts, anti skid works, and RTO must be selected.]

OFF - autobrakes deactivated

1, 2, 3 or MAX.

  • selects desired decel rate
  • switch must be pulled OUT to select MAX

RTO - automatically applies max braking when

  • Thrust Levers - IDLE
  • Airspeed > 90 kts

ANTI-SKID INOP Light

A

Illuminated (Amber).

  • system fault is detected by the anti-skid system

Extinguished.

  • operating normally

FLAP POSITION Indicator

A
  • indicates position of left and right TE flaps
  • provides TE flaps asymmetry and skew INDICATION
  • shows actual position during normal and alternate ops
  • flap position is sent to:
    • FSEU
    • FCCs (left to FCC A and right to FCC B)
    • SMYD (left to SMYD 2 and right to SMYD 1)

Indications.

  • asymmetry or skew - will look like a needle split
  • uncommanded motion - will indicate ACTUAL position

Notes.

  • if normal AC power lost - indicator will freeze (no asymmetry, skew or UCM protection)

FLAP LOAD RELIEF Light

A
  • function armed when in Flaps 30 or 40
  • Illuminated (amber):
    • @ Flaps 40 - flaps retract to 30 (due to excess airspeed)
    • @ Flaps 30 - flaps retract to 25

LE FLAPS TRANSIT Light

A

Illuminated (amber).

  • any LED in transit
  • LED is not in correct position (with regard to TE flap setting)
  • LE UCM (2 or more LEDs moved from commanded position)
  • during ALT Flap extension until LEDs are fully extended and TE Flaps reach 10
  • LIGHT IS INHIBITED DURING AUTOSLAT OPERATION

Notes.

  • no lights tell when LEDs are retracted on intransit or deployed (either position)
  • no SKEW protection for LE Slats (only position sensing)
  • during a full up to full down cycle this light should only go on 2 x up and 2 x down
    • from Up-1 and 5-10

LE FLAPS EXT Light

A

Illuminated (green).

  • For Flap settings 1 - 5: LE Flaps (Full EXT) and SLATS (EXT) position
  • For Flap settings 10 - 40: all LEDs FULL EXT
  • if any LED does not reach their appropriate position - this light will NOT come on

LANDING GEAR Lights

A

Indicator Lights.

  • RED Lights
    • Illuminated
      • gear is NOT down and locked (with either or both thrust levers at IDLE AND below 800’ agl)
      • disagreement (in transit or unsafe)
    • Extinguished.
      • gear IS up and locked (lever in UP or OFF)
      • gear is DOWN and locked (lever in DN)
  • GREEN Lights
    • Illuminated
      • related gear is DOWN and LOCKED (gear horn deactivated)
      • considered down and locked if at least 1 green light for each gear is on
    • Extinguished
      • landing gear is NOT down and locked

LANDING GEAR Lever

A
  • control lever moves the LG selector valve

UP -

  • landing gear retract
  • hyd pressure is sent to Alt brake system which stops wheels (main)
  • snubbers stop the nose wheel
  • nose gear held in place by over center link

OFF - hydraulic pressure removed from system

DN -

  • gear extend
  • hyd pressure releases the uplocks
  • over center locks keep gear down
