Frog Dissection Flashcards
What is the order of the female frog reproductive system?
ovisacs -> oviducts -> cloaca
What is another name for the liver?
Lobes
Glucagon
Causes blood sugar to rise. Signals liver for release of glycogen (hormone)
Testis
Make sperm and produce testosterone
Insulin
Signals cells to take in glucose in the bloodstream to maintain blood sugar level (hormone)
What does the gall bladder do?
Stores and releases bile, which then goes to the duodenum
Oviducts
Carry eggs from ovaries to cloaca
Stomach
Mixes up/mushes/breaks down food
What does the pancreas do?
Releases hormones for signaling and enzymes to break down proteins
Right/Left Kidney
Removal of waste products from blood → produce urine
What does the liver do?
Makes biles and stores glycogen
Large Intestine (colon)
Absorbs water, get rid of waste products ( → exits thru cloaca)
Trypsin
Enzyme that breaks down proteins
Ovisacs
Stores eggs
Yellow Fat bodies
Helps for insulation and provide nutrition
Ileum
Part of small intestine, absorbs nutrients/electrolytes not absorbed by duodenum
How does the reproductive system work for male frogs?
The testis produce sperm, which move to the sperm ducts, tubes that carry sperm into the cloaca, and out the body
What are the hormones produced by the pancreas?
Trypsin, insulin, glucagon
Spleen
Controls level of WBC, RBC and platelets, fights off germs, makes/stores/destroys RBC
Duodenum
Part of small intestine, breaks down and absorbs nutrients
