Exposition
Santiago, a poor shepherd, who travels around Andalusia with little resources. He lives with his sheep and gets money by selling their wool.
He meets a gypsy who interprets his dream. She sends Santiago on his way expecting him to give her 1/10 of his treasure when he finds it.
Inciting incident
While traveling to find his treasured Santiago comes across a keying in the market. He first tried to go the key but thinking knows about his personal legend they talked for a little bit and the key left Santiago Urim and Thummium to guide him on his journey.
Rising action
- in tangier Santiago meets a Spanish-speaking boy who suggests to help him to the pyramids but ends up taking all his money
- Santiago find a place to earn money in a crystal shop, where he builds a relationship with the merchant and helps him get more customers by selling Tea
- Santiago arrives in the Al-Fayoum oasis where he meets a girl named Fatima. His life is put on the line because he has a vision but he ends up receiving 50 gold coins because of it
- Santiago and the alchemist get captured by tribesmen. Santiago has three days to turn himself in the wind, on the third day, Santiago talks to the desert, wind, sun, and God to turn himself into the wind
- mystic Santiago to the monastery where he turns lead into gold. The alchemist divides the pan of gold into 4ths. He keeps 1/4 for himself, gives 1/4 to Santiago, 1/4 to the Monk, and the last fourth to the monk for Santiago
Climax
Santiago reaches the pyramids and sees a scarab beetle. While he digs to find his treasure to men take Santiago’s gold and beats him up they talk to Santiago and then he realizes where his treasure is
Falling action
Santiago goes back to the monastery to retrieve one fourth of the gold for him and returns back to Spain
Resolution
Santiago digs for his treasure under an old sycamore tree in an abandoned church. He finds the treasure and makes his way back to Fatima
