Focus: Mouth, lips tongue (sucking)
Dependency. Success leads to next stage. If not fulfilled mistrust will happen and baby finds it hard to cope when needs are met.
Adult character - Dependent

Anal - 18 to 3.5 years
A
Anus, toilet training
Self-control/obedience. Baby learns to control urges and behaviors. Parents must monitor being too controlling or not controlling enough.
Adult character - anally retentive (rigid/organized) vs. anally expulsive (little self-control, disorganized, hostile)

Phallic 3.5 to 6 years
A
Penis (both sexes)
Children learn morality and sexual identification and figuring out what it means to be boy or girl.
Adult character - promiscuous and amoral
