Oral
0-1 years old Incorporative; identifies world through mouth; Dependency needs must be externally met, libido centered in oral zone.
Anal
1-3 years old Elimination and retention; holding on letting go; Regulation of impulses begins; some of elf-control; conflict with parents, libido is anally centered.
Phallic (Oedipal)
3-6 years old Affection direction to parent of opposite sex; rivalry with same sex parent; Oedipus complex fear of retaliation from same sex parent; libido invested in genital area.
Latency
6-11 years old Formal learning occurs; peer friendships develop, same sex peer relationships are primary, energy is invested in world outside of the self and family.
Genital (puberty)
12-18 Intense love now capable of sexualization; egotistic and altruistic; ambivalence toward parents and other adults, energy is invested in the self.
ID
biological urges, impulse towards sex, aggression, id unconscious, pleasure and avoid pain
Ego
Mediator between the id and superego. Between internal and external reality; adaptive capacity in relation to external reality.
manages conflict between the id and the constraints of real world, some parts are unconscious others are preconscious or conscious
sysntonic=in sync no guilt
dystonic=dis n sync with ego guilt
Superego
seat of conscience; ego ideal properties: sense of right and wrong; uses internal and external rewards or punishments to control and regulate id impulse.
moral component of personality all moral standards, superego forces thee go to conform to reality superego causes clients to feel guilty when they go against society’s rules
Preconcious
all info outside of a clients attention, but readiliy available
Conscious
info client is applying attention too
unconcious
thoughts feelings client not aware of
