This is your ordinary memory. While things stored here, are not in conscious, they can be readily brought to the conscious.
Unconscious
Not directly accessible to awareness. This is where urges, feelings, and ideas take root and influence our actions and conscious awareness.
Condensation
Leaving out parts of your unconscious or mixing and condensing multiple elements into one
Displacement
Take a thought that is more socially acceptable and replace the dirty thought
Symbolism
Take non-sexual objects and give them sexual meaning or thought (Phallic or Yonic)
Phallic
Shaped like a man’s anatomy(parts) might make us think of sexual desires
Yonic
shaped like a woman’s anatomy(parts) might make us think of sexual desires
Latent Content
Latent:
Disguised fantasies in dreams or literature
Manifest Content
The unconscious wishes that are made acceptable
Id
Incorporates libidinal and other desires
- Inner child
- Pleasure principle
- Childish
Superego
Internalization of standards of morality
Part of our mind that keeps us very rigid it keeps us acting according to what is moral and acceptable(have moral obligations)
- Devloops with older age
- Can be very rigid if rules are strongly enforced(strict parents, school…ect)
- If superego is too strong you feel a sense of guilt and take people are beneath you because you do everything right
Ego
Balances the libidinal desires(id) and the superego to create peace between inner conflicts.
