Estates system means…

A

The estates system is the way the estates were organised. (What order they went in.)
It is how the parliament it split up:
1st estate- Clergy
2nd estate- Noblilty
3rd estate- (Everyone else: Middle Class, urban workers, peasants and landless labourers.)

A

The old way of running France, pre revolution.

Tax system means…

A

The way the tax was organised. The first and second estate did not have to pay tax yet they were the richest.
It was the third estate that had to pay tax and they struggled with it very much! Also the third estate had to do corvée. (Several days of unpaid work)

The enlightenment means…

A

New ideas. To do with philosophers. The cultural side of the causes of the revolution.
Reason- irrational ideas attacked
Toleration- they tolerated other religions
Freedom- they beloved they had the right to do as the liked since the Americans and England has just had a revolution.
Equality- for all men, both black and white and women!

The estates general means…

A

An equivalent to the parliament. They met in estates. The third estate often had no say, because the second and first estate had the same views so they vote for the same thing and therefore get more power and say.

A

A book of grievances, where people wrote their complaints .
