William Penn
Born in London as the son of a wealthy admiral, joined the Quakers in 1666, in 1681 received a charter to creat the colony Pennsylvania. Penn didn’t care about your religion
Great Awakening
A religious movement that swept through the colonies in the 1730’s and 1740’s that changed colonial religion (also affected social and political life) let to the exchanging of different ideas throughout North America.
Enlightenment
Movement that took place in the 1700’s spread the idea that reason and logic could improve society. People should have more of a say. Woman should have a place
Treaty of Paris
Treaty that Britain and France signed ending the war in 1763. Gave Canada and lands east of the Mississippi River to Britain. Florida to Britain also and changed that balance of power in North America
Navigation act
The act where Britain limited colonial trade (English ships, taxes, ect.)
Benjamin Franklin
Writer, publisher, scientists, inventor, and statesman who had a number of great inventions and wrote the deceleration of independence. Also created the Albany plan representative from Pennsylvania
James Wolfe
Was a major general. Led and won battle at Quebec. Died from his wounds.
Edward Braddock
In 1775 he led the British army toward fort Duquesne wadded across a shallow part of the monongahela river on July 9th. 70% lay dead or wounded by the French and Indians. Braddock was shot and killed. Arrogant and stubborn.
William Pitt
Secretary of State firmly believed British should defeat the French in North America NO MATTER GREAT THE COST. Mapped war strategies, increased Britain’s military expenditures and created a huge debt.
Marquis de Montcalm
Brilliant French general that controlled one of the best defended forts in America. Lost the battle of Quebec and died from his wounds.
Joseph Brant
Mohawk chief that supported the British. Mohawks were part of the Irquois
Battle for fort Duquesne
French and Indians ambush Braddock and the British army’s before they reach fort Duquesne at the monongahela river and defeated the British army.
Battle at Quebec
It was almost winter and in the middle of the night the British used the element of surprise and moved all of their equipment to the plains right in front of the French’s fort and when the French woke up they were unorganized and unprepared for the attack and they were defeated. Led by James wolf. Took place at the plains of Abraham
Albany plan
The plan that Benjamin Franklin created that all the colonies should join together or they would fall to the French (join or die flag)
George Washington
Young colonel in the Virginia Militia, who fights with General Braddock while trying to take Fort Duquesne. (Gains valuable military experience)
