Reflects compassion for Scrooge. “Merry Christmas” is in direct contrast to Scrooges “bah humbug” direct character foil of Scrooge, reflects Fred’s happy and merry nature.

Use of an asyndetic tetra colon used in order to emphasise the importance of coming together at Christmas. The adjective “charitable” is in direct contrast to Scrooges “are there no prisons?” Reflecting how he is the character foil of Scrooge.

Underscoring of Fred’s good nature, as easy as it is to be angry at Scrooge, he instead takes the warmer, more understanding approach.
