Franks-Davis. Flashcards
Objectivity.
Facts that are agreed on by observers- proven by the senses. Includes corporate experiences.
Subjectivity.
Based on individual opinion- can be seen in different ways. Could mean they are unstable and not useful for others. Can be seen in many ways- adds meaning.
Empiricism.
Mystical experiences depend on observation. Can challenge the integrity of the experience.
3 categories of challenge: description.
There is no proof of God, so interpreting these experiences as relating to him is invalid. This goes against everyday experiences. The person can misunderstand.
3 categories of challenge: subject.
The person is put under suspicion: they are unreliable if they experience mental illness, drug use, fasting. They do not understand the experience due to this.
3 categories of challenge: object.
The likelihood of the experience is unlikely to be true. They are only anecdotal and can not be used to prove God.
