Frame Adjustment Flashcards
State the types of adjustment tools
Pliers with padded plastic jaw - end piece adjustments. Prevents marring of metal frame finish
Pliers with gap/curved pliers - nose pad adjustments
When is standard alignment performed
(1) just before further adjusting frame for wearer
(2) when frames unboxed and to be placed on display shelves
(3) immediately after lens edging
Explain standard alignment process
(1) horizontal alignment: frame front facing you, check if bridge is skewed causing one lens to be higher than the other. Heat plastic frame bridge and grip firmly in opposite direction
(2) vertical alignment: view frame from the top, check is one is further forward/back than the other. Heat, grip firmly and push until frame front on the same plane and gentle curve
(3) X-ing: view frame from the side, check for twisting of frames where they are out of coincidence. Twist bridge in opposite direction
(4) temple spread: view temple from top, check if both temples perpendicular to frame front. Heat/use pliers at the end piece
(5) 4 point touch: frame has equal panto tilt if 4 points rested on a table. Adjust temple up or down at end piece
(6) symmetric ear pierce: both should be downward, inward
(7) temple fold angle: fold temples closed, observe angle and check that both temples parallel to each other. Adjust affected end piece while folded
When should frame fitting adjustment be performed
(1) before height messurement
(2) during delivery of spectacles
