Simple Fracture
hairline, does not move any part of the bone out of place
Complex Fracture
a separation of part of the bone and usually requires surgery
Green stick (Incomplete) fracture
an incomplete break of a bone. Usually occurs in a child’s soft bone and does not go entirely through the bone.
Compound (open) fracture
A break with an open wound
Colles fracture
a break of the lower end of the radius. usually caused by falling and landing on an outstretched hand
Complicated fracture
involves extensive soft tissue injury
Impacted fracture
when a fragment from one type of a fracture is driven into the tissue of another part. (when in the skull it is called a depression fracture)
Comminuted fracture
a break in which the bone is fragmented or shattered
Compression fracture
a break in one or more vertebrae caused by a compression or squeezing of the space between the vertebrae
Spiral Fracture
when a bone is twisted apart. This is common in skiing accidents
