Pre Hospital:
A traction splint or adjacent leg splint if fracture is about the knee
A vacuum splint for other suspected long fractures
Hospital:
Pulses/Circulation/Motor&Nerve Function
Use Ottawa Ankle & Foot rules to determine whether X-Ray is needed

A
Pre Hospital:
Intravenous morphine
Administer prophylactic antibiotics
Hospital:
Take a photograph

When do you perform emergency amputation?
A
Life threatening uncontrollable bleeding
Attempted limb preservation would cause a threat to life
A limb is deemed unsalvageable by orthoplastic assessment
