Paradox
Two opposing ideas presented in parallel structure
Antithesis
A paradoxical image created by using two contradictory terms together
Oxymoron
A taunting, sneering, cutting or caustic remark intended to wound another, expressed indirectly
Sarcasm
A speaker says one thing but means another
Verbal irony
The opposite or something very different happens from what is expected
Situational irony
Exaggerated speech or writing
Hyperbole
An expression in which something of importance is emphasized by being spoken of as though it were not important
Understatement
Affirmation of an idea by using a negative understatement
Litotes
The use of ridicule, sarcasm, irony humor ect. To expose, attack or deride the vices, follies, or shortcomings of humanity
Satire
A work that imitates another work for humorous often satirical purposes
