Why are the 4 purposes of an investigation?
1 - establish if an offence has been committed
2 - search for the truth and information
3 - collect and process information in accordance with legal procedures
4 - gather facts, data and exhibits in order to bring matters to a satisfactory conclusion
What are the two phases of an investigation?
1 - initial response phase
2 - ongoing investigation, or follow up
Why is investigative mindset?
1 - keeping an open mind
2 - maintaining impartiality
3 - active listening, attention to detail
What are avenues of enquire?
COURSE OF ACTION which may lead to the gathering of evidence
ACTION TAKEN by the investigator to uncover the facts of the case

According to 147G of the PAA, what is a relevant offence?
An offence punishable by imprisonment of 6 months or more
Define “responsible member” regarding a crime scene?
a) the member of the police force who establishes the crime scene; or
b) if another member assumes control of the crime scene - that member
Does that responsible member need to remain at the crime scene?
No
You need to inform a senior member once you have established a crime scene.
Who is a senior member?
Member of the police force with the rank of superintendent or above
