Yin; fire; expands in all directions
Ruler of the zangfu organs Governs blood and vessels (manifests in facial complexion) Houses the spirit/mind Opens into tongue Associated fluid: sweat Associated emotion: joy
Spleen (pi2)
Yin; earth; clear Qi of spleen moves up and is counterbalanced by turbid Qi of stomach; works with stomach to constitute central hub of Qi in the body

Opens into fleshy parts of mouth; flower is in the lips
Houses intention; associated I with thought/pondering

Yin; metal; Qi moves down and disperses

Kidney (shen4)
Yin; water; Qi moves downward
Root of earlier heaven (xing) Stores essence, governs reproduction, birth, growth, development Governs bones, produces marrow Opens into the ears and 2 yin (urethra and anus (and spermatic ducts in men)) Manifests in head hair Kidney yin/yang is root yin/yang of body Control opening/closing Controls strength and skill Houses willpower Gate of the stomach Associated fluid: thick saliva Associated emotion: fear

Heart protector; one of the ministerial fires
Functions similarly to the heart but acts as a first line of defense
