When was DST founded?
January 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University. These students wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to those in need.
When was DST incorporated?
Nationally incorporated on January 20th, 1930.
DST first public act
In March of 1913, the founders of DST participated in the Women’s Suffrage March in Washington, D.C.
DST Mission
To remain committed to the constructive development of its members and public service with a primary focus on the Black community.
DST Purpose
To provide assistance and support to communities worldwide through established initiatives or programs.

Symbol
Lady Fortitude, represents strength, courage, hope, wisdom, beauty, and femininity. There is a sculpture of it created by James King which was unveiled on April 28, 1979, and resides on the campus of Howard University.
