The model is designed so that all inmates in a prison are observed by one watchman

self-regulated behaviour whereby they act as if they are being watched.
What is significant about this usage of power?
organises the prisoner’s space, time and everyday activity, therefore turning them into ‘subjected beings’

of self-surveillance causes the internalisation of norms and values and therefore creates a more obedient inmate
