FOS & Christ Ahnsahnghong Flashcards
Intro
- Why are we on this earth? We are children of God, then why are we seperated from God who’s in heaven? How come we’re on this earth where we have to suffer so much?
- What kinds of suffering do we go through? Physically we get tired and sick but also, don’t we feel unhappy, angry, sad–why do we feel these things? If we could solve these feelings with physical things then I could buy you a car and you’d never be sad, you’d be perfectly happy for the rest of your life but is that the case? No because it’s not a physical problem, so a physical solution won’t fix it. It’s a spiritual problem, so we need to understand about our spirit.
- Gen. 2:7
Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
- God created human beings this way-out of 2 elements. (Dust and breath of life)
- What does it mean that we’re made of dust? (Dust=flesh)
- What is the breath of life? The part of us that comes from God, we can’t see it but we feel it (Our spirit)
- We’re not just our bodies, there’s a whole other side of us–when body and spirit come together then we’re alive.
- What if the two were to seperate? Let’s see
- Ecc. 12:7
..and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
- When we die, it says our bodies return to the ground where they came from. We came from the ground we go back to the ground.
- But what about our spirit? Our spirit came from God so it goes back to God.
- Where is God? (In heaven)
- Then where should our spirit go back to? (Heaven)
- But it says we return there–then has our spirit been to heaven before? Yes
- We were angels–let’s see if that’s true in the Bible
- Have you ever heard of King Solomon? He was given special wisdom from God, nobody before or after him had more wisdom. With all his wisdom, he testified that he was in heaven before being born on this earth.
- Prov. 8:22
“The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works,
before his deeds of old;
I was formed long ages ago,
at the very beginning, when the world came to be.
When there were no watery depths, I was given birth,
when there were no springs overflowing with water;
before the mountains were settled in place,
before the hills, I was given birth,
before he made the world or its fields
or any of the dust of the earth.
I was there when he set the heavens in place,
when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep,
when he established the clouds above
and fixed securely the fountains of the deep,
when he gave the sea its boundary
so the waters would not overstep his command,
and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.
Then I was constantly[e] at his side.
I was filled with delight day after day,
rejoicing always in his presence,
rejoicing in his whole world
and delighting in mankind.”
- When there was no water, king solomon was given birth. How could he have lived without water? Physically, is that possible? But before the water he was given birth. Physically, he could not have been alive, but are we just physical? No, his spirit was alive.
- Before the world was made, king solomon was alive. Where was he if he wasn’t on the earth? In heaven. Where were we before being born on this earth? In heaven.
- Before any of the dust of the earth. What does dust mean? (Body) Before having a body, king solomon was alive in the kingdom of heaven.
- Solomon was an angel who lived with God in heaven.
- Then what was heaven like?
- This was just King Solomon’s testimony, but there’s more. Job who was a prophet of God also wrote that he was in heaven as an angel.
- Job 38:1-4
Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:
“Who is this that obscures my plans
with words without knowledge?
Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.
“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?
Tell me, if you understand.
- Background on Job
- God asked Job: “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?”
- Foundation= very beginning
- This earth is 4.6 billion years old–how could Job possibly have been physically alive to know about the creation of the earth?
- God answered Job and told him where he was when the earth was being created
- Job 38:21
Surely you know, for you were already born!
You have lived so many years!
- God said Job was already born at the creation of the earth. How?
- Physically he was 4.6 billion years old? Or he was alive in the spirit?
- He was alive spiritually. As an angel.
- Then what happened? We were in heaven with God, rejoicing day after day creating with God. But now we’re here.
- Who came from heaven to this earth 2,000 years ago to tell us how to go to heaven? Jesus Christ. So let’s see, why are we here?
- Lk. 19:10
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
- The Son of Man is Christ.
- Who did he come to seek? (The lost)
- Who are the lost?! Are you lost?! No, but we are from heaven and now we’re on this earth. Do you know how to get back? No. Then what are you? You’re lost from heaven. Then Christ came for us–to save us.
- But how did we get lost?
- Mt. 9:13
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners
- Christ came for the lost, but here it says that the people he came for are not righteous good people but sinners.
- But we’re the lost. Then we sinned in heaven, that’s why we’re lost on this earth.
