Xing Ren vs Ma Huang= bitter flavor of xing ren directs LU qi downward and balances dispersive action of ma huang. Its oily nature protects the LU from Ma Huang’s drying.
Zhi Gan Cao + Da Zao= tonify the middle burner qi and provide the essence from which fluids can be replenished.
Sheng Jiang + Zhi Gan Cao + Da Zao= reinforces the movement and transformation of middle burner qi.
