Formula for Conditional Probability
```
What is Variance?
A measure of spread of the data. Low variance means the data is clumped together, high variance means it’s spread out
What is Standard Deviation?
This is the square root of variance. It’s the average distance of a data point from the mean
What are the 3 different types of probability?
What is a Random Variable?
A random variable is a numerical outcome of a random phenomenon. There are two types:
Discrete: Takes countable, distinct values with specific probabilities.
Continuous: Can take any value within a range, described by a probability density function.
Essential for dealing with uncertainty and making predictions in probability and statistics.
What is a sample space?
The Sample Space for a random variable represents all possible outcomes
What does it mean for 2 events to be indpendent?
Flashcard: Independent Events in Probability
- Definition: Events are independent if the outcome of one does not affect the outcome of the other.
- Example: Tossing two coins. The result of the first toss doesn’t influence the second.
What does it mean for 2 events to be mutually exclusive?
Mutually exclusive is a statistical term describing two or more events that cannot happen simultaneously. It is commonly used to describe a situation where the occurrence of one outcome supersedes the other. For example, war and peace cannot coexist at the same time. This makes them mutually exclusive.
What does it mean when two events are collectively exhaustive?
If two events are collectively exhaustive, it means that the two events describe every possible outcome. There are no other possibilities. So, the probability that one of the two events occurs is 1.
