FORMULA AREA AND PERIMETER Flashcards
Memorize the formula for Area and Perimeter
A closed curve with points equidistant from the center.
Circle
The distance of a line segment going across a circle through its center. It divides the
circle exactly in half. It is viewed as a line of symmetry. Its symbol is lower case d.
Diameter
What do you call this symbol π? It is a Greek letter that has a value approximately equal to 22/7.
Pi
The distance from the center of the circle to any point on the circle. It is one-half the length of the diameter.
Radius (plural radii)
The total distance around the outside of a circle. It can also be called the perimeter of a circle. Its symbol is an uppercase C.
Circumference
The total measure of the outside of a polygon.
Perimeter
The total number of square units in the surface of the figure.
Area
It is made up of several simple geometric figures such as triangles, rectangles, squares, circles, and semicircles.
Composite Figures
How to solve for Area of Composite Figures?
To find the area of a composite figure, separate the figure into simpler shapes whose area can be found. Then add the areas together.
